This poem
‘The struggles of the mind’ is written in free verse. It aims to describe the
struggles of the mind in the face of disappointment. A mind that is clouded by
emotions rejects reason. The mind constantly
dwells in the past and refuses to acknowledge the hope that the present and the
future have to offer.
There are
however, two ever present options before the struggling mind – One can choose
to move on or to dwell in the quicksand of emotions and be dragged into depression
and hopelessness. What will the mind choose? The eternal question of choices is
always looking us in the face every day of or lives.

Struggles of the mind
Stringed
pearls,
Flow down,
Unrestrained,
As emotion
rise,
From the
aching heart,
Seeking
release,
Brimming at the eyes,
Clouding the
vision,
Dwelling
only in the past,
Oblivious of
the present,
Days pass
by,
Unnoticed!
Obscuring
the future,
With the
pain of yesterday.
Life dangles
on,
The flimsy
thread,
Of emotion!
Will reason win?
Or pain gain
foothold,
Dragging
life into the,
The depth of
despair?
Will grace
shine through?
And faith
take root?
Bringing
back,
Joy and
vigor,
Into the
eyes now cleansed,
And soul nowpurged,
From the
pain of the past?
Hope shines,
Bright and
expectant,
Waiting for
a small crack,
To appear,
In the
windows,
Of the
dulled mind!
