The Park Bench

He sits there all day long arms open wide,
Longing for a friend to confide,
Spreading wide a carpet of emerald green,
Waiting patiently for his friends, unseen.
Young or old, he doesn't care,
All he wants is his secrets to share,
He knows their stories of love and pain,
Of cheating, lust and mercenary gain.
Silently listening to their every word,
Non-judgmental when in their deeds they slurred.
A companion when they loved and laughed,
Holding hands as if they could not bear to be apart.
A patient playmate of many a child,
Who climbed on him for a horsey ride,
A haunt of thieves in the dead of night,
He saw their heart was not ever right!
Courteous and hospitable is his stance,
Gracious and loving to those who romance,
Ignoring those who misuse his kindness,
Planning acts of cruelty; completely mindless.
In the wind and the rain he waits for them all,
Patience is his game summer or fall,
Clad in snow or leaves he takes on their colors,
For every season he wears new covers.
The dogs and their squirts he accepts too,
There was never a time when he ever felt blue,
No protests or outbursts he does ever make,
He is the park bench, for granted we take!
