Where are my Wings

Where are my wings

Where are my wings?
I need to fly!
I think I did,
Long ago,
On winged words,
Hovering on,
Intense emotions,
Taking flight,
On delirious thoughts,
Breaking free,
From the tedium of life,
Soaring high,
In a flash.
Spiraling up,
In potent imagination,
Transported to,
Distant lands,
Which in time,
Never existed.
The mind,
Barely understood,
Thoughts,
Scarcely reached,
Ideas hardly stretched
Dreams faintly grasped,
Imagination alone,
Could reach.
A sublime space,
Where words wrote,
Themselves,
In heavenly bliss,
Enchanted verses,
Plumed in gold,
Freckled with star dust,
Dappled with glittering diamonds,
Escaped from the pen,
Unfettered and free,
At the slightest,
Drift of thought!

This poem describes the plight of a writer who had lost her words, the magic flow of underrated thought and imagination. It was as if a dam was built over a free flowing river that suddenly found itself unable to meander and flow to its heart content. Writers often experience such blocks which restrains the free flow of thought and words. The joy of writing suddenly vanishes and forced writing often sings the same ditty over and over again like the waters fenced in by the dam.

Down The Memory Lane

This poem is about the author walking down memory lane where she finds more clarity in the present, she looks at the past with more objectivity and wisdom born from experience and realizes that life is but a muddle of memories. Being a person with a positive outlook on life she consciously decides to store only those happy ones.  Here you join her as she walks down memory lane.

 Down The Memory Lane

Walking down memory lane,
I took the street called past,
Standing at the cross roads,
Where life met confusion last.
I perceive wholesome clarity now,
Where perplexity once reigned,
I see wisdom play,
Where I in ignorance remained.
I observe sorrows past,
Pass me by in haste,
Laughter alone sojourns,
Hurts completely erased.
I reach my street,
Once heavily loaded,
With the good, bad and horrid,
Now with pure happiness stacked.
Joyful scenes in rosy tints,
Welcome me as I return,
Peals of laughter ring out loud,
As my merry songs I hum!
Memories are strange things indeed,
They clump together with speed,
Where past, present and future seamlessly blend,
Where one begins and another ends,
To discern I don’t pretend.

Struggles of the Mind

This poem ‘The struggles of the mind’ is written in free verse. It aims to describe the struggles of the mind in the face of disappointment. A mind that is clouded by emotions rejects reason. The mind constantly dwells in the past and refuses to acknowledge the hope that the present and the future have to offer.

There are however, two ever present options before the struggling mind – One can choose to move on or to dwell in the quicksand of emotions and be dragged into depression and hopelessness. What will the mind choose? The eternal question of choices is always looking us in the face every day of or lives.

Struggles of the mind

Stringed pearls,
Flow down,
Unrestrained,
As emotion rise,
From the aching heart,
Seeking release,
Brimming at the eyes,
Clouding the vision,
Dwelling only in the past,
Oblivious of the present,
Days pass by,
Unnoticed!
Obscuring the future,
With the pain of yesterday.
Life dangles on,
The flimsy thread,
Of emotion!
Will reason win?
Or pain gain foothold,
Dragging life into the,
The depth of despair?
Will grace shine through?
And faith take root?
Bringing back,
Joy and vigor,
Into the eyes now cleansed,
From the pain of the past?
Hope shines,
Bright and expectant,
Waiting for a small crack,
To appear,
In the windows,
Of the dulled mind!

The Cleansing of the Soul

This poem describes how tears serve the dual purpose of cleansing not only the eyes but also as an effective release for the all the pent up emotions within while cleansing the soul.

The Cleansing of the Soul

Unspoken words,
Unexpressed sentiments,
Pent up emotions,
Well up,
Seeking release,
In a torrent of words.
The soul articulates itself,
In flowing tears,
Unrestrained,
Until cleansed,
Of shame and guilt,
Pain and loss,
Then truth prevails,
In the sanctuary of the mind.
Light filters in,
The day dawns,
Into the freedom of light,
The soul moves on,
With life!

I love writing free verse, a style I have discovered lately. It doesn't come naturally to me. However I do recognize it is as a strong weapon to explore the depth of thoughts and emotions in verse.

The Blank Canvas - A Poem

The Blank Canvas

A canvas stretched on the frame,
Blank and yellowing with age,

Neglected it lay gathering dust,
Until the creator came.

Gently gliding his fingers across,
Wiping away the layers of grime,
Setting it softly on the easel,
Gazing tenderly at it a long time.

With eyes closed and in his heart
He conceived a picturesque scene,
With skillful knives he blended,
Colors never before seen.

Passionately he brought it to life,

With his palette and his knife,
Shading it with colors refined and bright,

Freeing it to take wings on his fantasy’s flight.

Playing around with shadows and light,

With scumbles, stipples and fluidic strokes,
Blending fantasy into reality,
Its shame and disgrace of the past he broke.

Transformed and renewed,

In its ethereal form,
It became the most desired and envied,
Of those enthralled by its singular charm.

Holding the canvas fondly to his breast,

With loving hands the creator caressed,
Sighing deeply he whispered,
Do you yet understand how much you are loved?

Birthed from my spirit and inspired thought,
Of me you will always be a part,
I will never leave you nor forsake you,
You will always find in me love ever true.

Oh! That I was the blank canvas,
In my makers wondrous hands,
Feeling him slap on some vibrant paint,

Occasionally scraping out some with restraint,
Filling in all the emptiness,

With his love, light and faithfulness.
